NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR July 14, 2008

               CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 16 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series saw Blake Stewart of Centre, AL take over the point lead in the East Region after his fifth win of the season on Friday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL, and a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

               Stewart leads Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL by just four points in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings, but the points will change later this week after NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials announce their results of a technical protest appeal involving the engine in Stephens race car.

               The engine was protested on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City , AL , and track officials are withholding the results of the race until the series appeal process has been completed.

Stewart now has 730 points based on his top 16 finishes in 17 starts, and Stephens, who picked up his series-leading ninth win of the season on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton , AL , has 726 points.  Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is third with 698 points in 15 starts.  Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is fourth with 669 points in 16 starts.

Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 641 points in 16 starts, and Larry Harrod of Plains, GA is sixth with 634 points in 16 starts.  Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL is seventh with 587 points based on his top 16 finishes in 20 starts.

Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL is eighth with 583 points based on his top 16 finishes in 19 starts, and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is ninth with 583 points in 14 starts.  Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL moved into the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 576 points in 13 starts.

Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL is closing in on the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point standings after taking two wins over the weekend.  Hiett captured his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe , AL , and then took win number five on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.

Hiett is 14th in the East Region standings with 524 points in 11 starts, to average 47.6 points per start, compared to Stewart, who is averaging 45.6 points per start.  Stephens per race point average is 45.4, and Martin’s per race point average is 46.5.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action over the weekend, Justin Shaw of Greenwood , IN topped a 28-car field to take the $1,000 top prize on Saturday night at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown , IN.   Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN finished third and moved back into the Top 20 of the East Region standings.  Barnett has 430 points in nine starts to average 47.8 points per race.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS continues to lead the West Region point standings in quest of his third straight title.  Keeton leads Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS by 36 points.  Keeton has 693 points in 16 starts, and Lee has 657 points based on his top 16 finishes in 17 starts.

Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 553 points in 14 starts, and his teammate Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL is fourth with 496 points in 13 starts.

Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS finished second on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus , MS to move up to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 476 points in ten starts.  McCreary has a Region leading points per start ratio of 47.6, compared to Keeton’s 43.3, and Lee’s 41.1.

Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS is sixth in the West Region standings with 474 points in 13 starts, and Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS is seventh with 446 points in 11 starts.  Tracy Sutton of Brewton, AL is eighth with 436 points in 11 starts, and Tootie Arnold of Meadville, MS is ninth with 424 points in 11 starts. 

Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL and Micha McCall of Flomaton, AL are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 413 points apiece.  Clifton has nine starts, and McCall has 12 starts.  Clifton ’s points per start ratio is 45.9.

Race winners in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region over the weekend were Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS taking his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, and first-time winners were Chase Washington of Houlka, MS on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS and Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA on Saturday night at A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA.

Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL was rained out on Saturday night, and Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg , MS did not report their results from Friday night.
