NORTH GEORGIA SPEEDWAY SIGNS ON WITH THE STORMPAY.COM WEEKLY RACING SERIES
CARTERSVILLE, GA – The growth of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series continues with the addition of North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA for the 2007 season. The ¼-mile clay oval gives the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series a sanctioned track close to its headquarters in Cartersville, GA.
The North Georgia Speedway Crate Late Model Division will compete on Saturday nights in 2007 under the rulebook of the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series, and its competitors will have an opportunity to compete for two separate point funds.
The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series gives drivers competing in a dirt late model powered by an economical GM Performance Crate Engine an opportunity to not only compete for their track’s weekly point fund, but also compete for a Regional point fund against other racers across the country without leaving their home track using a common set of rules and points system.
The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Regional points season for sanctioned tracks throughout the country begins on March 30 and runs through September 30. Drivers will earn Regional points during this period, with their best 16 finishes counting toward their point totals.
Chatsworth, GA businessman Ronnie Sutton will promote North Georgia Speedway, and he is enthusiastic about the 2007 season, and the addition of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.
“Joining the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series just seems like it’s a good thing to do for the racers and the track,” Sutton said. “I really like the fact that the racers can compete for two point funds with the track point fund and the regional point fund. I also like the way the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series enforces the rules. They’re a good honest series.”
Sutton and StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn are good friends and that friendship led Sutton into the racing business.
“My son Lee and I went with Mike Vaughn to the Daytona 500 fives years ago, and Lee caught the bug and wanted to start racing,” Sutton said. “At first, I was against it, but Mike kept on me about it, and one day he called and told me he had a race car for Lee. I gave in, picked up the race car for Lee, then one thing led to another, and now I’ve got a race track to promote.”
Vaughn, while accepting the “blame” for getting Sutton involved in the sport, expressed his excitement in watching both Ronnie and Lee Sutton grow in the sport,
“I’ll take the blame for getting Ronnie and Lee involved in the sport, but seriously, they are both very passionate, and committed to the sport,” Vaughn said. “I helped Lee get his first race car, and watched him run his first race. I really think they have what it takes to make North Georgia Speedway
a good place for weekly racing for both the fans and competitors. I know they share with me in realizing the potential of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.”
The addition of North Georgia Speedway
to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series will also give the competitors that have built the foundation of the series in its two-year existence a place to race on a weekly basis.
“When I founded this series under the banner of Crate Racin’ in 2005, the foundation of our competitor base was from North Georgia
,” Vaughn said. “Many of them have been loyal supporters of our National Tour. Now they will have a place to race on the off weekends from the National Tour, and have an opportunity to compete for Weekly Racing Series points.”
In addition to competing for track and regional points, the top point drivers in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Division at North Georgia Speedway will receive an invitation to compete in the 2nd Annual StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Invitational Shootout at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 23.
Sutton said he will pay the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division $500-to-win on Saturday nights, and Sutton and Vaughn have agreed to amend the tire rule for the first part of the season to accommodate the racers in an effort to use up the tires they already have from last season.
The North Georgia Speedway StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Late Model competitors may run the Hoosier Spec 21, and any shoulder-plated Spec 55, D55, or 1600 tire through May 12. During this period, all tires must be shoulder-plated.
After May 12, the regular StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Hoosier tire rule will be in effect with competitors choosing between the Hoosier Spec 21, and the Hoosier Spec 55 compounds which must punch 48 or higher on a durometer.
Sutton also said in an effort to speed up the program in 2007 at North Georgia Speedway, competitors in all divisions will be required to run the RACEceiver one-way radios, effective by March 30.
“The RACEceiver radios will make the racing safer, and it will also speed up the racing program in an effort to get the fans home at a decent hour on Saturday nights,” Sutton said. “We’ve used them in our racing, and I don’t how many times it has paid for itself by saving our race car from being in a wreck.”
Sutton said The RACEceiver one-way radios will be available for all North Georgia Speedway competitors through Vaughn at the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series headquarters in Cartersville, GA.
