BRINDLE EARNS POLE FOR STORMPAY.COM DLMS N. VERNON , IN RACE

Chip Brindle

NORTH VERNON, IN – Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA will be looking for his third “clean sweep” of the 2007 StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series season on Saturday night in the $5,000-to-win 75-lap main event at Twin Cities Raceway Park .  On Friday night, Brindle drove his CSC Trailer Repair GRT to fast time honors, and won the first heat to earn the pole position.

Brindle has two wins this season in StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series competition, and Brindle set fast time and won his heat race in both of those events.  Brindle started the evening on Friday by out-qualifying the 30 entrants with his first lap around the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval in 15.590 seconds.

The second lap saw Brindle going for more, but he got into turn three a little bit too hot, and he spun, but the first lap was good enough for fast time honors.  After starting on the pole for the first 12-lap heat race, Brindle went wire-to-wire for the win and the pole position for Saturday night’s 75-lap main event.

Joining Brindle on the front row for the big show will be StormPay.com DLMS championship contender and second 12-lap heat race winner Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA in the Hays Racing/Barto Enterprises Warrior.

Jay Blair of Angie, LA, another title contender, won the third 12-lap heat race in the All-Star Graphics Mastersbilt to grab the inside second row starting spot on the Saturday night main event.

The defending StormPay.com DLMS National Champion and current point leader David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN won the fourth 12-lap heat race in the Dixon Plumbing Mastersbilt to get a seat for the big show from the outside of the second row.  Rainey is second in the points, 24 points behind Gentry, and Blair is third, 28 points behind the point leader.

The top four finishers from Friday night’s four 12-lap heat races transferred into Saturday night’s $5,000-to-win 75-lap main event.

Following Brindle under the checkered flag in the first heat race were Patrick Sheltra of Indiantown, FL in the Sheltra and Sons Construction Rayburn, Bryan Bernhardt of Versailles, IN in the B&B Precision Moving Rocket, and Steve Godsey of Bedford, IN in the Indiana Stone Works Rayburn.

Second through fourth respectively in the second heat race behind Rainey were Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA in the Summerville Junkyard Mastersbilt, Mark Barber of North Vernon, IN in the Biehle Electric Mastersbilt, and Brad Barrow of Bloomington, IN in the King Distributors Rayburn.

Trailing Blair in the third heat race were Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN in the J.D. Byrider/Tony Stewart Racing Rayburn, Jim Till of Greenville, AL in the Dafor Heavy Timber Fabricators Trak-Star, and Chris Tays of Corinth, MS in the Bud Coley Trucking Rocket.

Rounding out the “Sweet 16” behind Gentry in the fourth heat race were the second through fourth-place finishers Brandon Keeton of Toomsuba, MS in the Charlotte’s Boy GRT, Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN in the Bob Parks Realty Rocket, and Rusty Hoge of Ooltewah, TN in the H&H Powersports GRT.

Drivers that finished fifth on back in the four heat races on Friday night will have an opportunity to make the big show in one of two 15-lap B-Mains on Saturday night.  The top finishers in the B-Mains will fill in starting positions 17 through 24.

One driver still on the outside looking in his 11-year-old Tyler Allen of Indianapolis, IN, who is trying to become the youngest driver to start a national touring dirt late model series race.  The fifth-grader turned heads during time trials by turning a lap in 15.75 seconds in the Richmond Guttering Rayburn for the eighth-quick time to earn the outside front row starting spot in the fourth heat.

Allen held the second spot in the opening laps of the race, but a miscue dropped back to fifth, and then two spins on a tricky racing surface while challenging for a transfer spot ended his evening.  Despite his misfortunes, the youngster said he would be back on Saturday night to try and race his way into the main event.
