WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR JULY 16
CARTERSVILLE, GA – The point races in the three StormPay.com
Weekly Racing Series Regions are beginning to tighten up as more
drivers reach the 16-race mark in the 16th week of the
27-week competition. Jimmy
Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL leads the East Region,
Herman
Reynolds of Laurel, MS leads the South Region, and Frank Wilson of
Milton, FL leads the South Region.
In the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series point tallies, a
driver’s 16 best finishes count towards their season point total.
Once a driver reaches 16 starts, beginning with the 17th
race, he can eliminate his worst finish of the season, and replace it
with a higher finishing point total to net points.
Elkins has 654 points from his best 16 finishes in 20 starts to lead
Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA by 65 points in the StormPay.com Weekly
Racing Series East Region. Wallace
has 589 points in 14 starts, so he can accumulate total points for two
more races, while Elkins can only net points.
Logan Yates of Delta, AL is a strong
contender in the StormPay.com WRS East Region, as he is third with 584
points in just 12 starts. Yates
picked up his series leading eighth victory of the season on Saturday
night at
Talladega
Short Track in
Eastaboga
,
AL
.
Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is also a title contender from the
fourth spot with 507 points in 12 starts.
Parrish Duncan of Newnan, GA is fifth
with 468 points in 12 starts, and Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA is
sixth with 464 points in
12 starts. Cline ventured
into the StormPay.com WRS West Region on Saturday night, and picked up
a win at
Twin
Cities
Raceway
Park
in
North
Vernon
,
IN.
Dustin Stewart of Eastaboga, AL is
seventh with 457 points in 12 starts, and Corey Korreckt of Lincoln,
AL is eighth with 433 points in 12 starts.
Keith Freeman of Commerce, GA is ninth with 418 points, and
Darel Ownbey of Calhoun, GA rounds out the top ten in the StormPay.com
Weekly Racing Series East Region with 401 points in just nine starts.
Ownbey, along with several other drivers
in the StormPay.com WRS East Region top 20 could actually be higher in
the point standings, but their home track, North Georgia Speedway in
Chatsworth, GA did not report their Friday night results to
StormPay.com WRS officials on Monday morning, nor did they post the
results on their web site.
In other StormPay.com Weekly Racing
Series East Region action over the weekend, Richard Stephens of Phenix
City, AL continues to be red hot, as he took his third straight win at
Penton Raceway in Penton, AL on Friday night.
Stephens will take on the StormPay.com
Dirt Late Model Series traveling stars when the National Tour visits
Penton Raceway this Friday night, and then travels to East Alabama
Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on Saturday night.
The 2006 StormPay.com Dirt Late Model
Series Rookie of the Year Frankie Beard of
Hartwell
,
GA
stepped back into the national limelight for the first time this
season with a win on Saturday night at Lavonia Speedway in
Lavonia
,
GA.
Beard became well-known nationally last season as he
was second in StormPay.com DLMS earnings in addition to his
RoY
honors.
Reynolds leads the StormPay.com Weekly
Racing Series West Region with 648 points based on his 16 best
finishes in 20 starts, but the defending StormPay.com Weekly Racing
Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS is closing in
from the second spot.
Keeton has 601 points in 13 starts this season, just 47 points
behind Reynolds. If Keeton
can win or finish second in a race this weekend with a car count of 15
or more, and Reynolds not net any points, Keeton could take over the
point lead.
Dallas Mozingo of Laurel, MS is third in
the StormPay.com WRS West Region with 498 points in 13 starts.
Mark Tice of Hollandale, MS is tied for the fourth spot with
Indiana
’s
Steve Godsey. Each driver
has 456 points. Tice has
12 starts, and Godsey has 11 starts.
Jim Moon of Zionsville, IN is sixth with 449 points in 11
starts.
Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is seventh
with 427 points in 10 starts, and Jamie Pickard of Columbus, MS is
eighth with 419 points in 10 starts.
Jamey Smith of Purvis, MS is ninth with 408 points in 10
starts, and Owen Stockstill of Columbia, MS rounds out the top ten in
the StormPay.com WRS West Region points with 382 in 10 starts.

Wilson continues to lead the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series South
Region with 695 points based on his 16 best finishes in a series high
27 starts, but he now has a new challenger in the second spot.
Josh Huss of Flomaton,
AL
moved from the fourth spot to second-place in the StormPay.com WRS
South Region points chase over the weekend.
Huss has 641 points in 15 starts, and can gain full points for
one more race. If Huss can
post a win in a high car-count event this weekend, and
Wilson
not net any points, he could move to within four points of the point
lead.
Huss finds himself right in the middle of the “Milton
Mafia,” as Bobby Morrison of
Milton
,
FL
is third with 637 points based on his best 16 finishes in 19 starts,
and Scott Sessions of
Milton
,
FL
