TAKES SECOND STORMPAY.COM DLMS WIN AT 411
KNOXVILLE, TN – Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN picked up his
second StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series win of the season on
Tuesday night at 411 Motor
Speedway
in the “Stars and Stripes” 40 driving the Hicks & Ingles
Mechanical Contractors Warrior. Weaver
held off a late-race charge by Jay Blair of Angie, LA in the B&K
Motorsports/Wild Bill’s Rescue Service Mastersbilt.

for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series at 411 Motor Speedway in

on the post his second series win of the season, with Blair finishing
second. (Mike Blevins

For Weaver, it was his second StormPay.com DLMS win in the last
three events, and also his second StormPay.com DLMS “Clean Sweep.”
On Tuesday night at 411 Motor
Speedway
,
and on May 25 at
Cookeville
Speedway
in
Cookeville
,
TN
,
Weaver was the fast qualifier, and led every lap to win both races.
Weaver out-timed the 26-car field on Tuesday night at 411 Motor
Speedway
with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval in 14.639 seconds.
Blair finished second after starting 12th, and moved
up to the third spot in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series
National point standings. Blair
caught Weaver with ten laps to go, but couldn’t find the lane he
needed to pass in heavy lapped traffic.
The defending StormPay.com DLMS National Champion David Gentry of
Lewisburg, TN took the third spot in the Dixon Plumbing Mastersbilt to
remain second in points, and Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA finished
fourth in the Universal Concrete Rocket to keep the series point lead.
Ingram now holds a 42-point advantage over Gentry, and 64
points over Blair.
Jim Till of Greenville,
AL
posted his best finish of the season with a fifth-place effort after
starting 15th in the Dafor Heavy Timber Fabricators Trak
Star to earn Rookie of the Race honors.
Till grabbed the top five spot after the apparent fifth-place
finisher Shane Roberts of Bristol, TN failed to pass the post-race
technical inspection in the RMI GRT.
Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA was sixth in the Pearson
Construction Warrior, and Chris Tays of Corinth, MS finished seventh
in the Bud Coley Trucking Rocket.
Chip Brindle of
Chatsworth
,
GA
drove his Brindle Brothers Auto Parts GRT to an eighth-place finish.
Shan Smith of Dade City, FL took the ninth spot in the Seckman
Fire Sprinklers TNT, and Rusty Hoge of Ooltewah, TN rounded out the
top ten in the H&H Powersports GRT.
Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA was the NeSmith Chevrolet Hard
Charger of the Race. Kay
started his Ice Bowl 2008 GRT from the 26th position and
finished 13th.
After two aborted starts for spins, the third try was a good
one, as Weaver took the lead from the pole position followed by
Roberts, Luke Laney of Sevierville, TN in the L. Laney & Sons
Construction Rocket, Ingram and Gentry.
On lap five, Gentry got by Ingram for the fourth spot.
The most serious incident of the evening occurred on lap 10 when
Bill Flowers of
Bremen
,
GA
hit the front straightaway wall and flipped the
Dixon
Hauling and Grading Rocket. The
car came to rest on its roof, but Flowers crawled from the car with a
little assistance from the track safety workers.
Flowers then walked away from the wreck uninjured, and under
his own power.

Weaver led Roberts, Laney, Gentry,
Ingram, Jeff Hamby of Lansing, TN in the PPM Racing Products Rocket,
Cline, Blair, Tays, and Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA in the Summerville
Junkyard Rayburn down for the restart.
Laney pulled up to the outside of Roberts to battle
side-by-side for the second spot.
Blair passed Ingram for the fifth spot on
lap 12, and he chased Gentry down to challenge for fourth three laps
later. On lap 20, Blair
passed Gentry to move up to the fourth spot.
By lap 23, Blair’s charge from 12th to the front
of the pack had him challenging Laney for the third spot.
Blair and Laney raced side-by-side into the first turn on lap
24, and Laney spun to bring out the caution flag.
When the field went back to green flag
action, Blair was all over Roberts for the second spot.
Blair made the pass on Roberts with an inside move off turn
four on lap 25. During the
next five laps, Blair would erase a half-straightaway lead that Weaver
enjoyed to make the last ten laps of the race very interesting.
Blair moved up to challenge Weaver for
the lead by lap 30, as the lead duo was negotiating heavy lapped
traffic. Weaver protected
the bottom groove of the race track, which was where Blair wanted to
make a move.
Blair couldn’t go to the outside groove to make a pass because that was
occupied by lapped cars. Weaver
played the lapped cars to his advantage all the way to the checkered
flag with Blair right in his back bumper.
In preliminary events during the evening, the two ten-lap
Qualifying Races were won by Fields and Blair.
The next two events for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series
National Tour will be a 40-lap $2,500-to-win race at Penton Raceway in
Penton, AL on July 20, and a 50-lap $3,000-to-win race at East Alabama
Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on July 21.
