DAVID
BREAZEALE MASTERS 1ST ANNUAL JERRY INMON CLASSIC FOR NeSMITH
SDCS
(Story

WINONA,
MS – David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS navigated lapped traffic
masterfully to claim the win in the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series 1st
Annual Jerry Inmon Classic on Friday night at Central Mississippi Speedway
driving the L&D Trucking Mastersbilt.
The
$2,000 to win, 40 lap affair drew a field of twenty-two Super Late Models,
and was co-sanctioned by the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Super Late Model
Series and the Promoters Racing Organization (PRO) Dirt Car Series.
After being the only driver to crack the thirteen second bracket in
time trials, the NeSmith SDCS point leader Breazeale was the Southern
Belle Pole Qualifier and was joined on the front row for the feature by
Klint Byars from Carrolton, Mississippi.
As
the green flag flew on the event, Breazeale blasted into turn one with
Byars, Tombo Callahan, Dean Carpenter, and Rick Rickman in pursuit. As
Breazeale motored away from the field early in the event, a great three
wide battle was being hosted for the second spot among Byars, Callahan,
and Carpenter. Byars would
clear the battle by lap four as Carpenter moved past Callahan to take the
fourth spot.
Lap
six would see Breazeale already catching the lap traffic. Seventh
starting, Anthony Burroughs, was making noise by lap 10, when he moved up
to the fourth position and began to provide heavy pressure to Carpenter
for third. As Carpenter and
Burroughs began to catch Byars for the second spot, and lap 14 would see
Byars jump the cushion exiting turn two and narrowly escape heavy contact
with the wall. Despite not
slamming into the wall, Byars would slip back to fifth.
The
event’s first caution would wave on lap 20 for Brian Rickman, who slowed
down the front stretch. At the time of the caution the top five running
order consisted of Breazeale, Carpenter, Burroughs, Byars, and Rick
Rickman. However, under the
caution Byars would begin to experience over-heating problems and was
forced to retire pit side.
The
ensuing restart would find Burroughs race past Carpenter for the second
spot. Two laps later the caution would wave again as Chase Washington
slowed down the front stretch. The field would return to green after the
brief caution period, but would be slowed again on lap 23 as Jay
Burchfield and Ray Mauldin made contact down the front stretch.
The
next restart would prove to be the final one of the night as Breazeale
once again drove away from the start as Carpenter retook the second
position from Burroughs. The running order in the top five would remain
the same for the rest of the event as David Breazeale claimed his second
tour triumph of 2010 with Carpenter, Burroughs, Rickman, and Wade Byars
rounding out the top five.
Klint
Byars was the recipient of the
GRT
Race Cars Hard Luck Award after being forced to relinquish his fourth
position at the race’s midway point with overheating problems. Shane
Stephens was the recipient of the Hard Charger Award for advancing more
positions (10) than any other driver in the main event.
The
next two events for the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series will be this Friday
night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL with a $2,000-to-win 40-lap main
event, and this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL
with a 40-lap $2,500-to-win main event.
