ECM SPEEDWAY JOINS NeSMITH RACING AND ADDS 3 SANCTIONED CLASSES TO THEIR LINE-UP

Bremen, AL – ECM Speedway in Bremen, Alabama has joined the 2017 line-up of speedways carrying the NeSmith Racing/Crate Racin’ USA sanctioned divisions. ECM will host racing across three NeSmith Racing divisions for their weekly racing events: the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Weekly Racing Series, NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division, and the new NeSmith Late Model Sportsman division.

Promoter Rodney Rice attended the NeSmith Racing Promoter’s Meeting at Magnolia Motor Speedway in early October where officials fielded questions and concerns regarding the Weekly Racing Series programs offered, and afterwards felt that the divisions fit into the program he is building at the 3/8th’s mile oval located a short drive off of Interstate 65 in Cullman, County.

Drivers will earn points during the 27 week Weekly Racing Season, and be eligible for both their Track and National point funds. Their 14 best finishes will be counted and used to figure the final points tally. Drivers will be competing against the strong local talent as well as drivers throughout the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series family of sanctioned tracks.

“We had a relationship with the previous management at the track which was then called Arkadelphia Speedway, and are glad to see the speedway back open and thriving. We are excited to work with Rodney and his staff at ECM, and feel that he truly understands the need and vision that we have to keep weekly racing affordable and viable for promoters and competitors alike,” stated NeSmith Racing CEO Mike Vaughn.

ECM Speedway is located at 1546 County Road 6 in Bremen, Alabama. You can visit their official website at www.ecmspeedway.com or Follow them on Facebook at ECM Speedway.

SHOWDOWN ON THE COAST FOR NESMITH LATE MODELS AND STREET STOCK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UP NEXT

Waynesville, GA – Beginning this Thursday October 13th, things will roar to life at Golden Isles Speedway as the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series and the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division invade the “Fastest Dirt Track in the South” as part of the annual “Showdown on the Coast”. The annual event will see a $5,000 to winner’s share for the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series, and will boast an astounding $10,000 to win for the Inaugural NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock World Championship 100 lap main event.

Things will kick off with an Open Practice on Thursday night October 13th. Then on Friday October 14th, Qualifying and Heat Races will take place for both of the NeSmith Racing sanctioned events to determine the cars that will be “locked-in” to Saturday’s main events. On Saturday, B-Main/Consi events will be contested to complete the starting grid for the A-Main in each division. Along with the B-Main and Consi events on Saturday, the top 24 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competitors failing to make the A-main will be eligible to compete in a $3,000 to win Non-Qualifier event.

Golden Isles Speedway is no stranger for doing things in spectacular fashion. The speedway and its facilities have seen several upgrades and reconfigurations in recent years, and has become one of the premier racing facilities throughout the country. To match the immaculate facilities and track surface that are now in place at GIS, they have put the money on the line to see who will be crowned “Showdown on the Coast” Champion in the NeSmith Late Models, and who will claim the title of “Inaugural NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division World Champion”.

The event has drawn interest from cars and drivers from all across the country that are looking to make the pilgrimage to South Georgia. Concern over the well-being of the surrounding areas and those involved at the speedway grew over the past weekend as a major hurricane, Hurricane Matthew, impacted the area with winds, rain, and damage. NeSmith Racing officials have been in contact with the Golden Isles Speedway staff, and aside from some tree and power line damage, the speedway never lost power and is prepared to go for the big weekend. NeSmith Racing officials do ask that everyone keep those in the area that have been negatively impacted in your thoughts and prayers.

One other notable inquiry concerning the 100-lap NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock World Championship was concerning a “fuel stop”. While there is no fuel stop planned, track and series officials will be counting caution laps during the first 50 laps of the A-Main. After lap 50, if there is a caution that could delay the action for several minutes the field will be frozen under the red flag and stopped on the speedway while clean-up takes place. Any car that exits the speedway under a caution period will be relegated to the tail end of the lead lap cars once they rejoin the field. These provisions should address the concerns and ensure fairness in competition for all competitors.

The anticipation and excitement around this event have been building since its announcement, and now it is race week and time to see who goes down in the record books as the Inaugural NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division World Champion. Join us this weekend to see who claims that title as well as who will be crowned “2016 Showdown on the Coast Champion” for the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series. You will not be disappointed with your visit to the “Fastest Dirt Track in the South” Golden Isles Speedway.

15-YEAR OLD SPENCER HUGHES CLAIMS NESMITH STREET STOCK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Cartersville, GA – After a season-long back and forth battle amongst the top 5 drivers in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division, one driver finally emerged on top. 15-year old Meridian, MS driver Spencer Hughes piloted his BJ’s Tire and Service Center sponsored Chevrolet Camaro to victory lane 16 times during the 27 week season that will officially close on September 25th, 2016. The young driver and his family operated team have battled many of the best Street Stock competitors in the country week in and week out in collecting those 16 victories. The victories accounting for his title do not take into consideration the non-points special event wins that the team grabbed as well so far during the 2016 season.

Hughes’ feat is one that will make history as he will be the youngest NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Champion to date, and also the youngest champion in the history of any NeSmith/Crate Racin’ USA sanctioned series. The mild-mannered Hughes put in the work and effort to produce a championship winning performance as he and his family team, comprised of his twin-sister Ellie, dad Johnny, and mom Jennifer built and maintained their “Hughes Your Daddy” race car in their own race shop. Along with some setup tips and work done to the Hughes machine during the early part of the season by some other racing fab shops, and the ultra-talented young driver behind the wheel, it was a winning combination that proved to be in contention anytime the team unloaded.

While Hughes was a relative newcomer to the Street Stock racing scene, he is no stranger to competition, hard work, and winning races. He was a multi-time champion in the go-kart ranks before making the move to the full size stock cars. His hands on approach to building and maintaining his race car, and his “day job” at Boland Performance/Trak Star Race Cars in Cuba, AL offers him the hands on experience to aid in his ability to setup a winning chassis. Hughes feat places him in a group of elite drivers that have claimed the NeSmith Street Stock National Championship. Hughes’ future is bright, and with the hard work, dedication, and talent the sky is the limit to where the young man could take his racing career.

Hughes, along with the top 10 drivers in all of the Crate Racin’ USA divisions, will be honored at the Annual Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Thunder Road Museum in Dawsonville, GA in January. The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division congratulates Spencer and his team on a phenomenal 2016 season.

NeSMITH PERFORMANCE PARTS STREET STOCK DIVISION WEEK 25 ROUND UP

Cartersville, GA – Week 25 of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season is complete, and after 25 weeks of competition there are now two drivers that have accomplished the “perfect” 700 score. Randy Lovell picked up the feature win at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, TX to keep his title hopes alive and remain within striking distance of 15-year old Spencer Hughes.

Headlines from Week 25:

  • Hughes grabbed another victory to aid in keeping the win total lead. Hughes piloted his Hughes Your Daddy racer car to victory at LA 36 Speedway in Lacombe, LA for a $1,000 payday and “King of the Swamp” title.
  • Spencer Hughes currently holds the advantage if the 2016 National Championship were to go to a tie-breaker. He is shown as having one more win than Lovell, but one of Lovell’s wins is a 40-point victory which give Hughes a two race lead after Week 25.
  • Battleground Speedway was rained out in Week 25, but have requested that their double-feature events that were scheduled be moved to Week 26.
  • Brian Grantham picked up the win at Golden Isles Speedway in Waynesville, GA on Saturday night. Grantham will be a local car to watch for in the upcoming NeSmith Street Stock World Championship paying $10,000 to win October 13-15 at the South Georgia facility.
  • Neil Brown visited victory lane again at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN.
  • Frank Wilson now has back-to-back wins at his home track Southern Raceway after grabbing his second consecutive win at the Milton, FL oval.
  • Tyler Turvin seems to have found some late season magic has he picked up another win on Saturday night at Needmore Speedway.
  • Ryan Colby took the checkers at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS on Saturday night.
  • Finish details from Week 24 at East Alabama Motor Speedway have been amended to correct the feature rundown.
  • With just two weeks remaining for the 2016 NeSmith Street Stock points season, it will be all eyes at the top to see who can pick up wins and push their competitor to the limit to be crowned 2016 NeSmith Street Stock National Champion.

NeSMITH PERFORMANCE PARTS STREET STOCK DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

Cartersville, GA – With Week 23 of the NeSmith Street Stock season over, 15-year old Spencer Hughes has achieved perfection by picking up the win at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday night. He now 14159089_1770101609913873_1509713480_nhas the 700 points that are eligible if a driver wins 14 weeks in the season. However, the points chase has tightened a bit and it is not quite over. Randy Lovell inched ever closer with another win at Battleground Speedway, and Steve Pate went back-to-back in victory lane with wins on Friday at East Alabama Motor Speedway and Saturday at Talladega Short Track.

Headlines from Week 23:
• Week 24 will see everyone focus on where the top 5 in points head to compete. With the points as tight as they are among them, each will be looking to win which will allow them to gain what few precious points are still available. In the event of a tie in the points, wins will determine the tie-breaker. That means that Hughes, Lovell, and Pate are all seeking to win as often as possible should it come down to that!
• Randy Lovell picked up the win at Battleground Speedway on Saturday.
• Tyler Turvin grabbed his first NeSmith Street Stock win at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA.
• Rookie driver Hayden Moran was victorious in action at LA 36 Speedway in Lacombe, LA.
• Larry Faulk visited victory lane at Flomaton Speedway.
• Trevor Woodard grabbed yet another victory at his home track Thunderhill Speedway Park in Summertown, TN.
• Jeff Butler took home the checkered flag with a win at Jackson Motor Speedway.
• Stuart Wilson bested a strong field to claim the win at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.

Full feature finishes are posted just below the Top 20 in the Point Standings through August 28th, 2016.

NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 21 Preview

Cartersville, GA – There are 12 points races that make up the Week 21 schedule for the NeSmith Street Stock Division.

Week 21 Preview Highlights:

  • Point leader Spencer Hughes is still looking to gain the few points needed to conquer the “perfect” 700 point season.
  • The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division 2016 National Championship is going to come down to the wire! Several drivers, especially the current top 3 in points, will be going for wins. Many more drivers in the top 10 will be looking to improve on their worst finishes as the season winds down.
  • By all indications the championship could end up in a tie, or at the very least be determined by one point or less!
  • The Week 21 Round Up will be interesting to see who the biggest winners were, and to see how everyone stacks up with just a few weeks remaining!
