NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR JUNE 29

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has reached the halfway point, and Week 13 saw a change in the point lead for both the West and East Regions along with several Top 10 positions.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS picked up his fifth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and followed that up with a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to take over the West Region point lead.

Keeton now has 736 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts with five wins, 14 top five finishes, and 15 top ten finishes driving the Boland Performance Trak-Star. Keeton now has a 14-point lead over Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS. Arnold has 722 points based on his best 16 finishes in 20 starts with seven wins, 15 top fives, and 20 top tens in the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star.

Looking ahead, Keeton has earned his 40 bonus points, and can now only net points in his future NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region races. Arnold is still eligible to earn up to 30 more bonus points for participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events between now and the end of the WRS season on October 4.

In their next two NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region events, Keeton’s two lowest point races he will be trying to improve on are a 30 and a 36. Arnold has two 40 point events he will be try to improve on.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is third in the West Region standings with 712 points based on his best 16 finishes in 19 starts after four wins, 17 top fives, and 18 top tens driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Like Arnold, Lee is still eligible for up to 30 bonus points and his two lowest weekly point totals are a pair of 40s.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fourth in the West Region standings with 692 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts after driving the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt to four wins, 10 top fives, and 16 top tens. Barber can still earn 10 more bonus points, and he can net points with his two lowest point totals being a 31 and a 32.

Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is just one point behind Barber in the fifth spot with 691 points based on his top 16 finishes in 19 starts driving the Triple R Painting Rocket. Brown has one win, 16 top fives and 17 top tens. Brown is still eligible to earn 30 bonus points and his two lowest weekly point totals are a pair of 38s.

Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS is sixth with 564 points based on 2 top fives and 14 top tens in 16 starts driving the D&J Development GRT. Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 495 points based on five top fives and 11 top tens in 13 starts driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS drove the Ware Construction Trak-Star to his sixth NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region win on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. That moved Williams up to the eighth spot in the West Region standings with 481 points based on six wins and nine top five finishes in 11 starts.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point leader Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS stayed in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region title hunt with his fourth win of the WRS season on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the 78 Towing and Recovery Victory Circle.

Cooley sits in the ninth spot of the West Region standings with 479 points, just two behind Williams, based on four wins, nine top fives and ten top tens in ten starts. Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS rounds out the West Region top ten with 433 points after one top five and 11 top tens in 13 starts driving the Greg’s High Performance GRT.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action over the weekend, Jason Wilkey of Batesville, AR drove the Dodds Signs Warrior to his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. Evan Ellis of Plantsville, MS posted his third win of the season on Saturday night at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS driving the Ellis Certified Welders Trak Star.

There were also three first time winners on Saturday night in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region. Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS took his first win of the season driving the Lawson Construction Rocket at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS. Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS was a first-time winner at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS driving the Talley Painting DWB, and Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL was the winner at Whynot Motorsports Park in the Boland Performance Trak-Star.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL regained the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point lead, after giving it up for a week to Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL. Knowles has 666 points with seven wins, 13 top fives and 14 top tens in 14 starts driving the All-Star Graphics Warrior.

Dudley, who did not compete on Friday or Saturday night, has 596 points with one win, 12 top fives and 13 top tens in 13 starts driving The Racing Zone GRT. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL used a pair of top five finishes to move back into the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings in the Gar’s Cash Flow Mastersbilt. Edge has 575 points based on his best 16 finishes in 17 starts with three top fives and 12 top tens.

Jason Deal of Copperhill, TN is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 531 points based on two wins, and 14 top fives in 14 starts driving the Cougar Fireworks GRT.

Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC drove the Jacob Anderson Company GRT to his third East Region win of the season on Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC. Anderson is fifth in the East Region standings with 530 points after three wins, 12 top fives, and 13 top tens in 14 starts.

Dana Eiland of Salem, AL took his second East Region win of the season on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL driving the Andy’s Auto Parts GRT and move up from 12th to the sixth spot in the East Region standings with 505 points. Eiland has two wins, nine top fives, and 11 top tens in 12 starts.

Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL is seventh with 482 points based on one top five and 12 top tens in 13 starts driving the Tri-City Machine Works GRT. Josh Henry of Newport, TN is eighth with 477 points after driving the Henry Trucking TNT to four wins, 11 top fives, and 12 top tens in 12 starts.

Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL is ninth with 458 points based on one win and nine top fives in ten starts driving The Racing Zone GRT. Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 437 points based on six top fives, and ten top tens in 11 starts driving the RPI GRT.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region action on Saturday night, Hunter Best of Greenback, TN drove the Robin Myrick Realty Executives Warrior to his second win of the season at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, and Larry Harrod of Plains, GA took the win at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL in the Q107.3 Rocket.

The 2007 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Logan Yates of Delta, AL picked up his third win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Cofields Starter and Alternator TSR.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL rang up four more wins during Week 13 to extend its lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge. Trak-Star Race Cars now has a series-leading total of 28 wins.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR had two wins over the weekend to move them up to the second spot in the standings with 17 total wins. Mastersbilt Race Cars of Caruthersville, IN is third with 16 wins.

Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN grabbed two win over the weekend, and closed in to make it a three-way battle for second in the standings. Warrior Race Cars is fourth in the standings with 13 wins. TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with five wins, and C.J. Rayburn Race Cars of Whiteland, IN is sixth with one win.
