NeSMITH SUPER DIRT CAR SERIES $10,000 CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE BEGINS SATURDAY IN COLUMBUS, MS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The road to the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series $10,000 Championship begins this Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS with a 40-lap $2,000-to-win Promoters Racing Organization event. The PRO Series is the Mississippi portion of the four-state NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series.

The PRO Series Columbus Speedway race on Saturday night is the first of 11 races in which drivers can compete for not only the PRO Series point fund, but if they are NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series members, they can also compete for the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series point fund that pays $10,000 to the champion and pays back the top ten point positions.

The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series will be announcing events scheduled for Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee in the coming days, in addition to the 11 PRO Series events. Drivers can compete at any series event in any state to earn points. A driver’s best ten finishes will count towards their NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series point total.

NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS NOTEBOOK FOR FEBRUARY 23

CARTERSVILLE, GA – A few notes and statistics of interest have come after the three-race series last week at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour, and series officials have announced a points system update for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.

A total of 53 drivers representing 12 different states and one province of Canada competed in the February 18, 19, and 20 races with 34 drivers qualifying for at least one race, and 14 drivers qualifying all three 50-lap events on the 1/3-mile clay oval.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA left Florida with a two-point lead over Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS. Turner earned a basketful of GM Performance Parts Hard Charger points at East Bay, as he passed a total of 46 cars in three main events. Turner’s Hard Charger leading point total, including the points he earned in the season opener in Columbus, MS, is now at 54.

WEAVER AWARDED TWO NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS EAST BAY WINS IN ONE NIGHT

TAMPA, FL – Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN was awarded the victory in the 50-lap NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series race on Saturday night at East Bay Raceway Park after the car of apparent winner Devin Dixon of Apollo Beach, FL was disqualified during the post-race technical inspection.

Weaver, driving the Cardinal Paint and Body Custom By Weaver was also awarded the win in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Thursday night East Bay Raceway Park event with the disqualification of Dixon. The engine in Dixon’s Night Hawk Towing Rocket was found to have a balanced crankshaft and aftermarket connecting rod bolts, both of which are disallowed in the series.

SMITH WINS NIGHT TWO AT EAST BAY IN NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS ACTION

TAMPA, FL – Shan Smith of Dade City, FL drove the Gardner Racing TNT to victory on Friday night at East Bay Raceway Park in the 50-lap main event for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. Smith took the lead on lap 22 from polesitter Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL then held off a pair of challenges in lapped traffic from Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN.

Smith made his bid for the win early in the race, as he bolted from his tenth starting spot and was up to third by the end of the first lap. Lap three saw Smith drive by Weaver in the Cardinal Paint and Body Custom to take the second spot.

“I’ve got a lot of laps around this place, and I’ve got a set up that works good when the track rubbers up,” Smith said. “I knew I had to get to the front early, and we were able to use the track conditions to our advantage.”

DIXON FLIES HIGH FOR EAST BAY NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS WIN

TAMPA, FL – Devin Dixon of Apollo Beach, FL rode the high line to victory in the Night Hawk Towing Rocket on Thursday night in the 50-lap main event for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at East Bay Raceway Park. Dixon used the outside groove to pass early race leader Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, WV to take the lead on lap 44.

Horton was the apparent second-place finisher, but his Adams Used Auto Parts Warrior was disqualified after failing the post-race technical inspection with an unauthorized muffler.

Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN was moved up to the second spot in the Cardinal Paint and Body Custom, and Dixon’s teammate Jeff Matthews of Dover, FL finished third in the Night Hawk Towing Warrior. The results of the top three finishers are pending further engine inspection after the three nights of racing concludes on Saturday night.

“The track kept changing throughout the race, and it seemed to come to us the longer the race went,” Dixon said. “I’ve got to thank Jeff Matthews and his crew for giving me an opportunity to drive this car this week.”

THREE EAST BAY RACES TO SET THE NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS POINT RACE BATTLES

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The next three NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights will set the point battles for the $20,000 National Championship and the $5,000 Rookie of the Year title. One race team in particular, is in the hunt for both awards.

Rounds two, three and four of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will be a pair of 50-lap $2,500-to-win shows set for Thursday and Friday nights, with a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event as the finale on Saturday night.

The Century Carriers, Inc. race team of Cottondale, AL has Justin McRee of Cuba, AL as a National Championship contender, and Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL as a Rookie of the Year candidate. McRee finished third in the season opener on January 23 at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, while Henderson finished 21st, and is third in the RoY point standings.

NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS TECHNICAL BULLETIN FOR EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK EVENTS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has issued a Technical Bulletin to competitors planning on competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on February 18, 19, and 20 that mufflers are required for these three events.

Competitors may use any external muffler, like the Schoenfeld 112535. No insert mufflers and no hulled out mufflers are permitted. FORECAST OF WINTER WEATHER CANCELS NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS WHYNOT RACE

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Whynot Motorsports Park officials have been forced to cancel this weekend’s Winter Bash for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour that was scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Meridian, MS area and has forecast one to three inches of snow on Friday.

In the coming weeks, Whynot Motorsports Park and NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials will look at schedules and attempt to come up with another make-up date for the two-day show with a 60-lap $3,000-to-win main event. The race has already been postponed once this season, as it was originally scheduled for January 15 and 16, but was rained out.

The next three events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will be at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL with a trio of 50-lap events. There will be a pair of $2,500-to-win races on February 18 and 19, and a $3,000-to-win event on February 20.

NeSMITH CHEVROLET READY FOR THE WINTER BASH THIS WEEKEND AT WHYNOT MOTORSPORTS PARK

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Round two of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will be this Friday and Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS with the Winter Bash highlighted by a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event. The action begins on Thursday night with an open practice session with gates opening at 4 p.m., and practice from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, the gates open at 4 p.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Qualifying and Heat Races to follow. Competitors are urged to get to the track early on Friday to fill out their 2010 registration paperwork. Registration will open at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Saturday schedule for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS at Whynot Motorsports Park will have the gates opening at 10 a.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. and racing to follow. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will run B-Main races and the 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event on Saturday.

William Thomas of Phenix City, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings after winning the season opener at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on January 23. National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is in the second spot in the points chase.
